The platinum variety of Polypterus senegalus is one of the most popular and well-known species of Polypterus. The contrast between its pure white to pale cream body color and its subtly colored fins is very elegant, and it exudes a fantastic presence under light. It is relatively small and easy to handle, and is recommended as an introductory species for ancient fish. Its leisurely swimming and bottom-crawling movements are also attractive, and it looks great both when kept alone and as a focal point in a tank with larger fish.
