). Oxydoras is a large dorado catfish native to South America. This specimen is a juvenile, approximately 15cm, already displaying the distinctive slender, powerful body shape and armor-like, hard skin of Oxydoras. Its
most distinctive feature is the well-developed bony plates and sharp spines along its sides. Its impressive appearance increases with growth, eventually earning it the nickname "King of South American Catfish." Currently a subdued gray-brown color, its dignified appearance will become even more pronounced as it grows. It is a
benthic fish, often hiding in the shade during the day, but becomes active at night and during feeding times. It readily accepts artificial feed and prefers sinking food and frozen shrimp and fish. Because it grows to a large size, this fish is best suited to those who can secure a stable breeding environment.
