This species is relatively gentle among polypterus species and is easy to care for. Its leisurely swimming along the bottom gives it the air of an ancient fish, making it a striking presence in the aquarium. As it grows, its body width increases and its band pattern becomes even more impressive, making it a delight to keep for a long time.
