It's found in the Almeria Basin in western Mexico, endemic to the states of Jalisco and Colima.
Interestingly, after digging through papers, I found that DNA differences suggest that Xanthus nigricans may be a subspecies or a separate species of this species.
Xanthus nigricans' distribution is more limited to the south, making this a highly credible theory.
Compared to Xanthus nigricans, the body color of Ilyodon furcidens is a brighter yellow, and the body markings are unclear or almost nonexistent.
It would be interesting to compare them.
